How reading time is calculated
Reading time = total words ÷ reading speed (words per minute). Speaking time uses the same formula at ~130 wpm.
Example: a 1,250-word essay at 250 wpm → 1250 ÷ 250 = 5 minutes of silent reading; the same essay read aloud at 130 wpm takes about 9 min 37 sec.
For study planning, remember that comprehension-heavy material (textbooks, papers) is usually read slower than the default — setting 150–200 wpm gives a safer estimate for dense content.
